Housekeeping for Blinds

There are numerous little parts to these deceptively basic blackout curtains, yet they all accumulate dirt and grime. The cleaning techniques for the different sections of the blinds vary. Maintaining and cleaning your blinds isn't just about aesthetics; it's a need. Dusty and dirty blinds wear down more rapidly and don't function as well as they should, so they need to be replaced more frequently.

The slats of your blinds may typically be efficiently cleaned with just water. Some mild dish soap mixed with 1/2 gallon of water can give you a bit extra cleaning power. Some glass cleaner can also be added to the mix for a streak-free finish.

Remember to always try a less obvious location if you are trying out new solutions.

  1. Blinds should be cleaned using a vacuum cleaner

To avoid scratching or denting the slats, vacuum the blinds with the brush attachment. As you vacuum, close the slats all the way in one direction. As well as vacuuming the entire surface, you should open and shut the slats in the opposite way.

  2. Spot clean

Look for finger prints and dirt accumulation after vacuuming to see whether they require further cleaning. With a moist non-abrasive sponge, clean tiny filthy areas. Use a clean microfiber cloth or an old towel to carefully wipe away any remaining water.

  3. Untreated wood blinds that may be washed and dried

First, carefully vacuum your blinds to eliminate as much dirt as possible before bathing them. With some mild dish soap and warm water, fill a bathtub or large washing basin. Submerge the blinds in the sudsy water and let them sit for a few minutes. In order to remove extra filth, let the blinds to soak in the water for about an hour. Then, take the blinds from the tub and rinse them with warm, clean water before drying them.

To minimize staining, gently towel-dry each slat of thick wood blinds, front and rear. You'll want to take your aluminium or mini blinds, shake off the water and hang them up to air dry instead of letting them sit in the water to soak up moisture. By drying them with a towel, you'll prevent bending the slats, and they'll air-dry fast.

  4. Cords that are discoloured can be made still be made whiter

Grease buildup may be an issue with many blinds that include white cording, ropes, and taped sections. If cleaning these items doesn't work, try using white shoe polish to touch up the white spots.
